This month for Blind Spot I always try and do something in the horror/thriller world and this year is no exception. We decided to talk about the erotic thriller Single White Female.
The closest we get to something like this movie now is a movie like Verity but that isn’t nearly as fun as this campy classic. The thing I think is the most crazy is that nobody ever questions the lead wanting a white roommate. That’s completely normal and expected. It also made me laugh with its 90s freely expressed nudity. You certainly have sensuality now but not the casual walking around the apartment nudity you have in this unless it is made in Europe.
In particular the last 1/3rd of this movie becomes unhinged in the best kind of ways. Both of the leads look a lot alike and when Hedy gets the bowl cut (such an ugly hairstyle) it’s genuinely creepy how close they look to each other. There is also a dead puppy at one point which is very chilling.
If you like schlocky fun thrillers Single White Female is a great one to put on. It’s available to watch on tubi and I had a lot of fun with it. Definitely check out our podcast episode for more discussion (see above.)
