Each year for Blind Spot Project I try and pick at least one animated film I haven’t seen before. However, given this is my 10th year doing the project and given the number of animated films I watch the my list of blind spots for the medium is getting smaller. This is why I am so thrilled to have found a hidden gem this year: Mr Bug Goes to Town.

I had never heard of this film before the blind spot project, but I had heard of the Fleischer Brothers and had seen Gulliver’s Travels. Now that I’ve seen Mr Bug I’m not sure why it is not more highly praised in the animation community. What a sweet, entertaining and visually stunning animated film. I enjoyed it a lot more than I was anticipating.

We were a little late in posting the podcast episode for September because of my channel being hacked but I’m so glad I got a chance to see this film. The animation is great with beautiful watercolor backgrounds and impressive movement especially in scenes like when Mr Bug gets electrocuted.

Have you seen Mr Bug Goes to Town? I highly recommend it!
