2018 Summer Box Office Predictions

I bet you didn’t know that Summer starts in April. Well, at least it does for the movie season. Marvel studios moved Avengers: Infinity War up into April and that forced us all to get ready a little earlier than we had planned. For the second year in a row my friend Conrado and I have gotten together to share our predictions for this year’s Summer box office. You can listen to the podcast above or on itunes/youtube.

I must admit my list is kind of bland this year. Last year I had a few more odd ball/risky picks but nothing stood out to me as a real dark horse or wild card pick. There are a few that could possibly make it like Mamma Mia 2, Eighth Grade, Christopher Robin, Teen Titans Go or Uncle Drew but I don’t see them as big challenges. We will see.

My Top 10 Summer 2018 Box Office Predictions

  1. Avengers: Infinity War
  2. Incredibles 2
  3. Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom
  4. Solo
  5. Deadpool 2
  6. Ant-Man and the wasp
  7. Mission Impossible: Fall Out
  8. Hotel Transylvania 3
  9. Skyscraper
  10. Oceans 8

You’ll have to listen to the podcast to learn why we picked what we picked and how our lists compare We would love your feedback.  Thanks!

      1. Place 3. It appeals to a very strong demographic after all. Honestly, if the incredibles wasn’t an animated movie AND the sequel to one of Pixar most popular movies, I would even bet on place 2.

  1. nice picks, however much i love and want Deadpool 2 do well, i think it will struggle. the outside shot i would pick is Hereditary because its another horror with a lot of buzz around it and Ocean’s 8 is something no one really wants to see

    1. Interesting. Maybe I’m letting my excitement for Oceans 8 cloud my judgement. The trailers have been great, cast is great and I’m really looking forward to it

      1. I think my disinterest in Ocean’s 8, is that i would be happy to have an original women cast heist movie, but just remake/sequel didn’t work with ghostbusters just not into the idea, i was expecting a lot more movies this summer, but it seems quiet compared to last year.

      2. Yeah it being a spinoff doesn’t bother me but we’ll have to see what the general public think. Ghostbusters was fine in my opinion but Oceans 8 looks great

      3. I think Ghostbusters is a great comparison. It was the 8th biggest hit in the summer of 2016. I think it’s reasonable to think Oceans 8 might also do as well.

  2. It’s surprising how similar our lists are. We select the exact same Top 10 films, have the same #1 and we never differ by more than 1 placement, with one exception. I put Oceans 8 at number 8 (naturally) and you have it down at number 10. I’m banking a little higher on the “girl power” of such past hits as Wonder Woman, Girls Trip, Ghostbusters and Pitch Perfect 2.

In our challenge, we have a point system where getting the movie at the exact right spot is key: https://fastfilmreviews.com/2018/04/24/audioboom-out-now-bonus-7th-annual-summer-movie-gamble/
