Jungle Book Trailer Review

Hey guys!  I got a chance to watch the Jungle Book trailer today and it was pretty good.  It wasn’t as jaw droppingly awesome as some people had led me to believe out of D23 but it  looked good.  Then again, the folks at D23 saw over 3 minutes of clips including clips of Christopher Walken as Louie and Bill Murray speaking as Baloo.

I’m really excited about this video because I’ve been conquering the behemoth that is Adobe Premiere.  Normally I pick up a software with ease, even software that is tough for others I get very quickly.  But Premiere has been very difficult for me to learn.  I used a few lectures from Lynda.com but mostly through playing around with it and not being intimidated.  Today’s breakthrough was I learned how to place still images within the video and I don’t even need a green screen!  Hooray!!! (I know it might sound like it but it was really hard!).

Here is the actual trailer.

I’m most hopeful they will change the ending because I hate that in the original animated film.  I am also curious how much of the music they are going to use.  I wonder if it will be like in Cinderella where she just hummed a few of the songs but they weren’t ever sung as musical numbers.   If they are going to move away from the  musical they must be embracing the book more because there isn’t a ton of story to the original film.  I just hope they get it right because they are playing with fire because ending aside I love the original film.

What did you guys think of the trailer?  Are you excited or cautiously optimistic like I am?

  1. The trailer is pretty good – except for Scarlett Johansson voicing Kaa. Even if Kaa’s gender has been changed, all I can hear is Scarlett Johansson. Plus it might have been more interesting if Kaa was a good guy like in the book.

    1. Yeah I see what you are saying. I felt a little of that and it could be a problem with all these celebrity castings. I actually have never read the book but I need too. I know it has little to do with the animated film.

  2. This film looks interesting from the trailer that was shown. I hope for a better one sometime in the future, but this one looks good nonetheless. Wow, first The Jungle Book 2 came out on Valentine’s Day back in 2003 (which my mom and I at least saw on that day), now this live-action version is coming out on my birthday on April 15thbof next year? Wow, that’s awesome! Anyway, thanks for the post. Here’s hopin t ends up being a good one!

  3. Not gonna lie, I really liked this trailer! It was visually pleasing, the fact that the CG animation looks as good as it does months before the film is released (which tends to be the case for most trailer CGI) is mostly reassuring, and I like the sense of action and adventure emanating from it. I like pretty much everyone they’ve cast, except for Scarlett Johansson as Kaa, not because of the gender change but because her acting struck me as a bit wooden with the exception of the “Trusssst in me” line. I love the Jungle Book story overall, in both the animated and previous live action forms, and this looks like a nostalgic, adventurous romp – part of me really wants to hear Bill Murray’s Baloo sing ‘Bear Necessities’ in full.

As for being true to the book, I hope they don’t do that too much and instead lean on the animated classic for inspiration, and let Andy Serkis follow the book in his own adaptation (which incidentally I hope has enough visual differences from the Jon Favreau version in order to not seem too similar). By the way, I found it really weird that King Louie is apparently a sinister giant in this version, I always liked him as the upbeat, fun-loving trickster.

    1. Wait this trailer is for the Jon Favreau version. You are right about the visuals looking good for this early in production. I dont care if they stick to the book except for the ending of the animated film which I hate. But I love Jungle Book. It’s in my top 10 even though I hate the ending. I hope it’s good!

    2. Oh and I liked the trailer too. I just wasn’t as wowed by it as some of the people coming out of D23 made it seem.
